ADEPA. West african association for the development of the artisanal fishing

Established in 1992 ADEPA aims to contribute, on the one hand, to the economic and social development in the artisanal, maritime and continental fishing sector in West Africa, and on the other hand, to defend the interests of small-scale fishers and their organizations in this sub-region.

It gathers the national professional organizations of fishermen and women processors / traders (16), NGO (10) and individuals (14).

It covers 16 West African countries: Benin, Burkina Faso, Cape Verde, Ivory Coast, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea-Bissau, Guinea-Conakry, Liberia, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone and Togo.

Objectives:

  • To support and further the contribution of professional bodies to economic and social development of the artisanal, maritime and continental fisheries sector in West Africa;
  • Organize the exchange of experiences among professional organizations in the region, within the framework of North-South cooperation; 
  • Contribute to the defense of artisanal fishermen interests, women fish processors and traders; 
  • Encourage the public expression of professional organizations in the context of setting public policy.
