APMM. World Mountain People Association

The APMM is an association that acts on behalf of the most marginalized and isolated areas on the planet. Since its founding in Quito (Ecuador) in 2002, is focusing its efforts to put into action the goals contained in its Charter ie to ensure equitable development and sustainability of population and mountain areas while preserving their identity.

Objectives:  

  • Stopping the exodus of these population and allow them to live in their territories in a dignified and sustainable way.
  • Ensuring development based on local governance of their territories and their resources
  • Allow equitable access to social goods, services, equipment and markets
  • To preserve their identities, values, cultures and specific factors and promote an alternative development model.

Actions:

  • To make hear the voice of the mountain at the international level
  • Organize the exchange, solidarity and the North-South and South-South cooperation, sharing knowledge, resources and experience
  • To encourage and support local initiatives  

Organization:

The APMM is organized into local, regional or national in each continent (Europe, Andean America, Africa, the Himalayas). In order to better represent all the vital forces of the mountain, is composed of three collegiate organisms:

  • Charges elected (representatives of local communities and other forms of local institutions of the mountain countries)
  • NGOs (civil society associations, socio-professional groups, craft or industrial companies)
  • Skilled personalities (scientists, researchers and experts working along with the mountain populations, and any person who, personally, want to commit to the mountains).
