World Forum of Fishermen and Fishworkers. WFFThe World forum of the fishermen and fishworkers is a nongovernmental international organization who represents the national organizations of the fishermen and workers of the artisanal and coastal fishing of small scales on the various continents. Worried by the fact that the situation of artisanal fishing was abandoned in the program of the Symposium of FAO on food safety, the Canadian Council of professional fishermen invited the organizations from north and south to a workshop to work out proposals on durable fishing. In November 1997, in New Delhi, India, the first meeting convened for the formation of the Forum took place, with the participation of more than 25 representatives per country. The representatives ratified the need to lay out of an international organization who defends the rights of the small communities of fishermen. They proposed and approved the statutes of the organization and elected a Coordination committee, entrusted to start the adopted agreements. In October 2000, took place the Constituent assembly with the participation of 28 coming from all the continents. The assembly established the objectives for the international action. In May 2004, took place the General meeting with the participation of 38 countries, renewing the Coordination committee and establishing the work axes for 2005-2007:
