Development of a university network engaged in the culture of peace

FRANCE

To contact northern and southern universities regarding common goals targeted to citizen formation and social responsibility

Bearers of the Initiative:

Ecole de la paix, Grenoble-France

Alter the establishment of some formation modules on peace culture development within a series of higher education entities (France, Poland, Belgium) the Ecole de la paix [School of Peace], since its very beginning and lobbied by UNESCO, confirms that the end of conflict processes and better the processes for peace together with the globalization phenomenon evolution reinforce the need to bring the universities closer to any kind of social realities.   These educational entities could then intervene from a responsible perspective to face society in general.

Objectives:

1. To make the traditional higher education entities – as innovative particularly higher structures regarding formation – aware of the benefits of a joint collaboration on these environments.

2.  To succeed in a university network establishment sharing this vision.

The School of Peace is planning to undertake an investigation research on this issue among its partners and then progressively disseminate it through all the involved entities and through those which could possibly be interested in such attachments.

Schedule element:

On a first stage, the activities could be undertaken during the course of the next academic period (2008-2009).

Did you know?

In Argentina, thanks to lax laws created during the nineties and today's existing, large multinationals are looking for gold, silver, copper and uranium. This industry uses nine tons of explosives a day to extraction, to separate the gold from the rock are used daily 10 tons of cyanide, in this same process, called leaching by cyanide 300.000 cubic meters of water per day are used.

Just so you know, a single gold ring is equivalent to 18 tons of toxic waste.
