Initiative Co-management of fisheries resourcesWEST AFRICAInvolvement of professional organizations of artisanal fishing in the implementation of regional fishing projectsBearers of the initiative:ADEPA and the Permanent Forum of professional actors of artisanal fisheries in West Africa. The ADEPA remains convinced that the sustainable management of fisheries resources is possible only through implementation of joint management involving all stakeholders, including professional organizations of artisanal fisheries. Hence the urgent need to involve the POs in defining and implementing the policies and development projects relating to fishing.
In this perspective, ADEPA, the Permanent Forum of professional actors of artisanal fishing, and national forums established at the initiative of ADEPA, have decided to focus on two regional projects whose implementation is underway. They are: the project "Support to co-management initiatives and integration of marine protected areas in fisheries management in West Africa (Mauritania, Senegal, Cape Verde, Gambia, Guinea-Bissau, Guinea-Conakry), the second phase of the Regional Programme for the co-management of the coastal and marine zone in west Africa or PRCM (Mauritania, Senegal, Cape Verde, Gambia, Guinea-Bissau, Guinea-Conakry).
Relations with other allies:For the first project, ADEPA is in partnership with the Subregional Fisheries Commission (SRFC), with which it has signed a memorandum of understanding on collaboration.
Scheduled elements:June 2007: diffusion of the project "Supporting initiatives co-management…" |
