Initiative The artisan fishing products trade in Western AfricaWestern AfricaRegional colloquium on “Economic association agreements: challenges and issues at stake for the artisan fisher crafts in Western Africa.”Bearers of the initiative:ADEPA and the Permanent Forum for Artisan Fishing Professional Actors in Western Africa The artisan fishing products trade (processed products mainly) remains an ADEPA’s concern due to two main reasons. Firstly, because fishing products are available into the local market through this activity. Owing to this trade those people who have less economic resources obtain the animal proteins essential for a food balance. Secondly, this activity mostly feminine offers and provides women with a job and salary better than any other economic sector in Western Africa. The OMC and the Economic Association Agreements (APE) are threatening to oppress the small fishers and destroy the artisan fishing crafts. To immediately focus this issue in order to find suitable solutions is a must.
