The International Programme for the Mountain (PIM), thanks to financial, human, technical means, will be able to mobilize the international community and other partners, greatly increase the capacity of mountain regions. It will aim primarily to restore and improve social structures and techniques for territorial management, to maintain and strengthen the core activities of the mountain economy (agriculture, pastoralism, forestry); better exploit natural resources, to develop innovative new activities (tourism, industry, handicrafts and services); to address the backlog in education, health, communications, housing. The PIM will also, ultimately, stabilize the population of mountain and reduce the serious imbalances caused by the mass exodus of these regions.
