Initiative International Ministerial Conference on MountainWORLDReviving a real dynamic for international, voluntary, equitable and sustainable development of mountain areasBearers of the initiative:The aim of this conference is to encourage mountain countries and the international community to establish permanent and effective tools for the realization of the Charter of World Mountain People and Objectives of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs ). To this end, the Ministerial Conference is seeking the participation not only of governments of major mountain countries, but also major international organizations involved in development policies and environmental issues (FAO, UNESCO, UN) as well as those whose decisions have a decisive impact on these territories (WTO, IMF). Under the global process of decentralization and empowerment of local and regional actors, representatives of affected populations, NGOs, socio-professional groups, companies, researchers and qualified persons are also invited to participate in the process of analysis, reflection and debate of the Conference. The main objective of the conference is to establish a state of play shared by all actors on the situation of mountains territories and populations in the world to build a dialogue between political representatives of populations, and economic decision-makers on the future of these territories and take appropriate decisions.
