A technical partnership in the field of water is held between the French town of Gap and Riobamba (second largest city in Ecuador, capital of the province of Chimborazo, the the more indigenous, rural and poor in the country) .

The visits to Gap in 2007 made possible to meet with elected officials and technicians of the city ready to engage in technical cooperation with Riobamba to help it cope with its problem of water supply.

The cooperation is structured around three main themes:

• sharing of resources and a supply system for agricultural use and human consumption
• protection of the resource and basin
• the quality and efficiency in the construction and management of drinking water systems and sanitation.
