International Seminar on food sovereignty: global or partial solution to food challenges?
Valencia 7 to 10 June, 2010
This meeting is a collaborative effort of CERAI (www.cerai.org) and of the international network Sustainable Earth Alliance (www.terre-citoyenne.org). Both organizations are working from different approaches to the problems linked to agriculture, nutrition, rural development, fishery resources, training, etc.
The global food scenario presents two main challenges in the XXI century. The first is to feed the entire world population present and future. The second challenge is environmental in nature how to feed humanity without contributing to climate change?
The answers to these challenges require joint capabilities at multiple levels. Agriculture, fisheries, livestock, hunting and gathering are complex activities that combine natural factors (land, water, air), economic factors (credit, capital), technical factors (production models), social factors (agricultural workforce distribution of the population), cultural factors (food culture) and political factors (legislation).
Is the food sovereignty a global or partial response to these challenges? Through this meeting will discuss the elements of policy proposals for Food Sovereignty.
