According to the International Food Policy Research Institute, 10 million ha of land lost by erosion, by year. Each year, anywhere in the world, growth of cities and slums, the intensification of transport networks, etc., removed from agriculture hundreds of thousands of hectares of very fertile area. The area of farmland per person has declined by nearly half since 1960.

  • Monday, June 7: Visit experiences in rural areas in Valencia.

José Martí, Cuban poet and thinker stands in his "educational ideology" the need to address "the practice"rather than theory. Inspired by this principle and not wanting to "teach" but to show the diversity of the rural reality of Valencia, several visits were scheduled in order to stimulate reflection and debate.


11.00 visit to the agricultural experimental station (Instituto Valenciano de Investigaciones Agrarias) in Carcaixent about research on organic farming and the exploitation of the varieties.

14.30 visit and lunch in the cooperative "La Simona", an artisanal dairy.

Back in Valencia, meeting with other participants and access to MOLINO GALAN, living and working place.

9:00 to 18:00: Seminar-Workshop for reflection and debate. "Food sovereignty", a reality within reach of people? Definitions, theoretical capital accumulated, political experiences.

9:00 to 18:00: Seminar - Workshop for reflection and debate: Towards an international convention on the right to food. The lines of the new governance.

19.30 meeting with the public. Round table on food sovereignty.

09.00-10.30: workshop conclusions

11.00-15.00: Visit to the experience of the Cooperative Aiguaclara

20.00: Final report. Under the "Global Cuisine" closing ceremony around a paella made in situ.
